media appreciation #4: the Questions Bp Oil

1. Discuss and review the two BP Oil ads. Why does BP Oil choose the images/style it does to use in their ads? What is the target audience(s)? Which images stick in your mind and why?

They use a green flower/ sun I can't tell for sure which it is but yet they are an oil company which is one of the worst things in the world but their making themselves look like they care for the environment by even making their logo green. The target audience of Bp is people of any age who care about the environment and own a car. They are showing they are greener than all the other companies so you choose them when you have to go gas up. Well the image that chose has very flashy colors so if you see it once and figure out it's Bp you will not forget that image.

2. In light of the current disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, is BP’s slogan (Beyond Petroleum) and Logo (the flower) appropriate?

Well in a way yes it is appropriate because they are taking action for their responsibilities of they spilled oil into the ocean if they didnt care about the environment i don't think they would be working as much as they are right now. This is the time for them to prove to all the people they made believe that they were a green company by cleaning up their mess to our precious ocean.

3.Consider responsibility; considering that it was BP’s oil rig that burned in the Gulf of Mexico and the resulting oil spilled would have been BP’s profit, do BP and other oil companies deserve to be ridiculed, made fun of, and/or satirized?
Well I believe it is their fault and yes they do deserve it becuase when they are removing oil from our earth they should be very thankful for what they have and everyone who messes up pays for it so they should be ridiculed because it's part of life but whatever happened, happens they should work hard to achieve a better future.

Media Of The Future

Find “something” new that we’ll see in the future
What is the immediate use for the maker’s product?
What impact will this product have on us, the users,and/or the world?

The product I have chosen for this assignment is called air mouse it is a computer mouse glove designed for people with wrist problems. It is basically a glove that goes around your hand so that there is no pressure in your wrist throughout your 8 hour office job day. This product is modernizing our computers even more and i believe soon enough we will be controlling our computers by thoughts. Words today can even control our computer and type such as TTS programs which stand for text to speech.

Here is the youtube link for this product which was on the show Dragons Den: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4n2d2-ESQdg

Media Appreciation #2 Buffalo Bill

1.Give at least 3 examples (with details) where the lines between reality (history) and entertainment (media) became blurred during the life of William Cody (AKA Buffalo Bill).

A.Buffalo Bill at some points would be fighing with the Natives and then later on he would be preforming a play about them.

B.William would treat them poorly at times and other times make an entire show with and about them and treat them very well in front of the media. He would also travel around the world with them.

C. He would say he was for womens right of how they should be equally payed yet he was mistreating his own wife not spending any time with her and his childern.

2.What reasons do we have to call Buffalo Bill the “original world celebrity”? Explain.

Celebrity status could mean alot of things but william cody at his time was well know all over the world. At that time the media and spreading information wasnt as powerfull as it is today. So he was known all over the world which not many people were making him a world wide known celebrity.

3.How could Buffalo Bill have benefited from new media? Who would have been some of his Facebook friends?

William Cody kept to himself alot and i think it would have been easier to make friends through facebook because he wasnt a very social guy so having facebook would have helped him to have more friends.

His friends were: Wild Bill HICKOK, Texas Jack Omohundro, Giuseppina "Josephine" Morlacchi, Annie Oakley, Teddy Roosevelt, Major Frank Joshua North, Prentiss Ingraham, Gordon Lillie, Alexander Majors, Johnny Baker

Video Game Ted Talks

Where do you place yourself in video game culture?

I am a video gamer in today’s society of gamer I play a reasonable amount of video games. I often won’t play for a week so I am not considered an addict. If my video game consoles were to be sold and I would never play a game again I wouldn’t die. So I am placed in the middle of the video game class pyramid. I am in the middle between the addicts and people who don’t play what so ever.

What do you think of video games and video game culture?

I think that video games are a vast industry started by Mr. Zinclair and expanding rapidly is an activity that is taking over the world. I personally am not against video games but to the extent they are right now its fine but as time they will integrate into people’s life and become a problem.

What do you think the impact of video games will be on our future culture?

Well depending on how video games modernize if they keep getting more advanced like they currently are people will eventually control a robotic version of themselves. This idea came to me from a movie I saw the movie was called surrogates, where everyone is home controlling a robotic version of themselves so the game will be the game of life.

One Point found interesting or important?

The point I found most interesting and couldn’t believe was that, a majority of people who play video games are women. Honestly out of all my friends who are girl none of them play video games how could it be that there’s more girls than guys maybe girls play in the closet or something cause I don’t believe this stat is true.
